If you want to re-create the cake at home, here is the cupcake version:

Oreo Cupcakes

Makes 12

90g unsalted butter
200g brown sugar
125g dark chocolate
2 medium eggs, separated
1 teaspoons vanilla extract
100g plain flour
500g self-raising flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
4 Oreo cookies, smashed
200ml milk

Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, then set aside. Heat the oven to 180C and line cupcake tin with paper liners.

Beat the butter until soft, then add sugar and mix until fluffy.  Add egg yolks, then vanilla and melted chocolate.

Mix the flour, baking powder and soda in a bowl, then add it to the first mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir in the bashed Oreos until evenly distributed.

In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites until soft peaks form, then fold in the batter, mixing well.

Scoop into the cupcake liners straight away, filling them 3/4 full. Bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack before icing.

I think cream cheese frosting works well with these but you could use buttercream if you prefer.

gluten free cake pops

More and more people have been asking us for cake pops that can by enjoyed by people who follow a gluten-free diet and we can make a variety of cakes for our cake pops that are made with gluten-free ingredients. However, these cake pops are prepared in the same kitchen as our other cake pops and for that reason we do not certify them as gluten-free.

The frosting we use in cake pops made with gluten-free ingredients is buttercream as unfortunately cream cheese contains gluten. Still very delish!

All candy melt, which is used for coating of cake pops is gluten-free and you can choose from chocolate, vanilla and carrot cake – or, if you have your own favourite, let us know and we’ll try out best to make it with gluten-free ingredients.

Delish red velvet cake

We are very adamant about the cakes (that end up in our cake pops) being made fresh from scratch. We don’t use cake mixes and only use fresh and simple ingredients, and all the cakes are baked by us.

Red velvet cakes are very popular because of their striking colour and they can be quite a surprise when you bite into one of our cake pops and discover the beautifully deep red cake with cocoa flavour.

Our red velvet cake is made from butter, sugar, free-range eggs, vanilla essence, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and red food colouring. And that’s it – no preservatives or other nastiness. Some traditional recipes rely on buttermilk and vinegar because the acidity tends to better reveal the red anthocyanin in the cocoa, however this is no longer necessary.

We make red velvet cakes with two different types of frosting, depending on your preference and occasion. The classic combination of red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting is great for when you can keep the cake pops cool beforehand and don’t need to store them for long – weddings are a good example of this. Otherwise, vanilla buttercream is a good alternative.

As we bake the cakes ourselves, we can control what goes in them, so if you have any special requirements, let us know.

Vanilla cake

We are very adamant about the cakes (that end up in our cake pops) being made fresh from scratch. We don’t use cake mixes and only use fresh and simple ingredients, and all the cakes are baked by us.

To give you an example, our vanilla cake is a classic sponge cake made from butter, flour, baking powder, caster sugar, eggs, milk and vanilla essence. And that’s it – no preservatives or other nastiness.

As we bake the cakes ourselves, we can control what goes in them, so if you have any special requirements, let us know.
